States With Highest Black Population

Texas, ranked first, has a black population of approximately 3.55 million. Georgia, coming in second place, boasts a black population of around 3.32 million.

The state of Texas has the largest number of single-race Black people (around 3.4 million), followed by Georgia (roughly 3.3 million) and Florida (about 3.2 million).

New York city had the largest number of people reporting as Black with about 2.3 million, followed by Chicago, 1.1 million, and Detroit, Philadelphia and Houston, which had between 500,000 and 1 million each.

In 2021, California had the highest Hispanic population in the United States, with over 15.75 million people claiming Hispanic heritage.

Washington D.C. is without a doubt one of the best cities for black people. It has an ocean of opportunities for entrepreneurs and black professionals. It has renowned universities like Howard University (HBCU), George Washington University, and Georgetown.

Walker (1867-1919), who started life as a Louisiana sharecropper born to formerly enslaved parents in 1867, is usually cited as the first Black millionaire.

Hawaii, Mississippi, Louisiana, Maryland and Georgia had the smallest percentage of whites, according to the census.

But one unique feature of the state is its large number of historical all- black towns. In fact, as early as the mid-nineteenth century and through the turn of the twentieth-century, African Americans settled over 20 towns throughout Oklahoma–more than any other U.S. state.

Florida’s lowest percentage of Black residents is found in Citrus, where they make up 3.8% of the population, followed by Sarasota, Gilchrist, Walton, and Martin counties.

Wyoming is the least populated state in the U.S. According to the 2020 census, Wyoming has a population of 576,851 people. Since the 2010 census, the state had a population change of 2.3%.

The four largest U.S. counties that had majority white populations in 2018 were Maricopa (Arizona), King (Washington), Middlesex (Massachusetts) and Palm Beach (Florida).

The 2020 Census estimates that Blacks are 14.2 percent of the total population. Blacks are 10 percent or more of all practicing physicians in the District of Columbia, Georgia, Mississippi, and Maryland. Georgia fares far better than most southern states.

The states that have surpassed 1 million Latinos since 2010 are Georgia, New Mexico, North Carolina and Pennsylvania. The three states with the most Hispanics also had the biggest increases of this population from 2010 to 2019: Texas (2.0 million increase), California (1.5 million) and Florida (1.4 million).

Maine, West Virginia, and Vermont were among those with the lowest Hispanic population shares, at 1% each.

No single ethnic group forms a majority of California’s population, making the state a minority-majority state. Hispanics (of any race) are the largest single ethnic group in the state. Spanish is the state’s second most widely spoken language.

Population data shows Citrus County having the highest per-capita population of white residents and the lowest percentage of black residents in the state. Gadsden County has the highest percentage of black residents in Florida.

The best place to live in the U.S. earned the top spot on U.S. News & World Report’s list for a number of reasons. Good weather isn’t one of them. Green Bay, Wisconsin, jumped two spots to become the best city to live in for 2023, according to the publication’s annual ranking.

In short, if you were a person of color in the United States over the past decade, especially a black person, looking to move or have children, the GOP-run states of Texas, Florida, and Georgia were the most attractive places to live.

As of 2021, White Americans are the racial majority, with non-Hispanic whites representing 59.3% of the population.

The First Americans came from eastern Eurasia, and it looks as though there was a surprisingly-early movement of people into the continent.
